Mindful Monday: Tradition

  • by

“Tradition is not the worship of ashes but the preservation of fire” -Gustav Mahler. Sometimes it seems we remember the ashes of our past and the painful remnants remain in our memory. It’s important to preserve memories but when we get pigeonholed by these memories is when it becomes problematic. One friends’ post inspired this thought train w/in me I wanted to share. While it is true sometimes holidays can be difficult for some, I think sometimes we have got to remember we have to take our own happiness into our own hands. Sometimes you do need to be sad and mourn. And sometimes you need to bury those ashes and dig out a new thing. Happiness and this holiday season for me has been a developmental process of differing sorts. Because I’ve had various illnesses the last several years, traveling has been difficult. While I’m getting better I had to think what is it I want my holiday season to look like? My focus this holiday season will be connecting with people and: Resting, Researching and Writing. I love movies and books so I’ll be munching popcorn in my Avengers Box. Some funky flavored candy canes – Dr. Pepper, Swedish Fish, poinsettias and plants, cool new stocking and new meal idea from the movie, Love Actually that I will of course remix are a part of my growing traditions. Whether you’re a family of 1, 2, 5 or more, decide what’s important to you and go for it. And if that option is unavailable then what is the next one, and move towards that. Creating your own doesn’t have to look like anybody else’s but be authentic to yourself and what the season means to you.🌲
